Teaching Kids With Diverse Needs
by Harriet Fancott

This teacher has clearly engaged the children.

All children and youth with autism (ASD) and intellectual disabilities have the right to experience the joys and benefits of being active, being social and learning new things. They are a valued and important part of the classroom.

Teaching tips

  • Children with diverse needs require a lot of breaks
  • Verbal cues and PECS are your friend
  • Children with ASD have difficulty with transition
  • Don't forget to use accommodations and modifications
  • All children love snacks
